Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has issued an executive order requiring all barangays to establish designated fireworks zones for community displays during the holiday season. The order aims to ensure public safety by outlining specific criteria for selecting safe zones and prohibiting fireworks use in residential areas, hospitals, and private homes. Children are also banned from handling fireworks, and the sale and use of hazardous fireworks are prohibited.
CEBU CITY Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has mandated all 80 barangays in Cebu City to establish designated fireworks zones for community displays during the holiday season.In Executive Order 26, issued on Dec. 14, 2024, Garcia instructed barangay officials to work with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to identify and enforce these zones. Garcia said in a press conference on Monday, Dec.
23, that if no space is available within a particular barangay, it would be more advisable to consider alternative locations in neighboring barangays.The order outlines specific criteria for selecting fireworks zones, including population density, availability of emergency medical staff and firefighting equipment, and a safe distance of over 100 feet from residential areas.The executive order also prohibits fireworks displays in private households, residential areas, and hospitals. It bans children from any involvement with firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices and outlaws the sale and use of hazardous fireworks such as atomic big triangulo and super lolo.Garcia emphasized that resident safety is the primary concern, citing past incidents involving unsafe use of fireworks. He warned that violations would be charged under existing city ordinances regulating fireworks and pyrotechnics.The order provides a list of permitted fireworks for both indoor and outdoor use, aligning with Philippine National Standards. Allowed indoor items include sparklers and party poppers, while outdoor fireworks include fountains and Roman candles, among others
