In the aftermath, his mother Mechelle Turvey addressed rallies and vigils calling for calm and focusing attention on child safety in the community. "There's violence all across the country … I feel it more now because I've gone through that life experience of losing Cassius," she said."[Police can] take on some of my life experiences and just maybe alert them to how families are actually feeling."
