An 18-year-old student was arrested after the car he was driving hit a tricycle, killing its driver and passenger in Caloocan City on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Col. Ruben Lacuesta, city police chief, identified the arrested car driver as John Usher Dizzle Ramirez Chua, a resident of Potrero, Malabon City.
Based on the collected closed-circuit television footage and an incident report from Caloocan City Police Station , a Nissan Terra driven by Chua was speeding along the southbound lane of Gen. Malvar St. at about 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday when it hit a tricycle that was crossing the eastern side of Tirad Pass St. between Brgy. 135 and 136 near Potrero, Caloocan City.
Due to the impact of the collision, the tricycle driver and his passenger were thrown a few meters away from the vehicle.The tricycle driver was identified as Benjamin Lazaro, 65, a resident of Ynchausti Subdivision, Malabon City, and his passenger as Ma. Cecilia Chua, 50, a public school teacher, of Brgy. 16, Caloocan.Lazaro died while being treated at the Caloocan City Medical Center, police said.
