'I don’t mind hard work'
QMJHL Draft: Selected in the seventh round, No. 114 overall, by Chicoutimi in 2020From working on the boat to playing hockey on the ice, Newcombe has always transferred the hard-working lifestyle to his game and has been a consistent player throughout his major junior career to date.
In December, Newcombe would be faced with a new challenge. Despite being a key player in the Chicoutimi lineup, the team traded him to the Eagles in a deal which sent 16-year-old first-round pick Thomas Desruisseaux to the Saguenéens. Newcombe acknowledged the Eagles' desire to have him part of the team, which is something he believes has only made his experience in Sydney that much better.
In 24 games with Cape Breton, Newcombe has seven goals and 17 points. Between the Eagles and Chicoutimi, he’s already set career-highs in goals and is one-point shy of breaking his single-season high in points with several regular season games remaining this month.
