THE Bureau of Immigration apprehended a Japanese national allegedly connected to the notorious 'Luffy' gang in an operation on Monday, January 27, 2025.The suspect, identified as Sasaki Takashi, 43, was arrested at a residence in Savana Village, San Pablo City, Laguna, in a joint operation with the Philippine National Police Intelligence Group and the San Pablo City Police Station.
Takashi was wanted for violations of Japan's Penal Code, with a warrant of arrest issued by the Tokyo Summary Court in January 2023.He is accused of conspiring with others to steal ATM cards and bank information from elderly victims by posing as law enforcement or finance officials conducting fake investigations.Investigation also linked Takashi to the 'Luffy' gang, a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in telecom fraud and extortion schemes operating in the Philippines.
