MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla issued a strong call to action for local authorities and communities to prioritize safety and preparedness following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon, one of the most active volcanos in the Philippines.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, Remulla urged all local chief executives in the affected areas to begin immediate evacuation efforts within the 4 to 6-kilometer permanent danger zone surrounding the volcano.He stressed that special attention must be given to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.

Emergency response teams specializing in search and rescue, evacuation, and medical assistance were instructed to remain on standby for rapid deployment to high-risk areas, Remulla reported.The DILG chief also underscored the importance of declaring a state of imminent danger or calamity in severely affected regions if necessary. He recommended the suspension of classes, office work, and travel to safeguard public safety.
