Pictou Centre MLA Pat Dunn was a guest speaker at the opening ceremonies of the Bantam Memorial Tournament, which was held at the Pictou County Wellness Centre from Feb. 3-5. Family and former players impacted by the 1984 crash that killed three players and a parent were also in attendance. - Adam MacInnisJohn MacLeod remembers going to two of his teammates' funerals in the morning and returning to school in the afternoon.
“Back then it was a lot different than it is today,” said Greg Green, who was one of the players injured in the crash. Jason Patriquin grew up hearing about the accident through his minor hockey days and over time has gotten to know the players impacted most by it.As coach of the bantam AA Crushers who won their division at the Bantam Memorial Tournament, he said it was an honour to get to talk more with those original players and the families of those who died in the accident.
