Balanced energy mix is the right way forward for PH
THE Department of Energy has recently stepped up its promotion of a 'balanced' energy mix for the Philippines, with Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla sharing those views with the audience of a forum hosted by the Stratbase ADR Institute in Makati and DOE Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan carrying the message to another forum in Cebu.
In all of the conversation about 'energy transition,' which is strictly guided by the objective of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions, we tend to forget that our real objective should be 'energy security,' of which making energy cleaner is just one part, albeit a critical, non-negotiable part. The recent rhetoric coming from the DOE seems to indicate that our energy policymakers understand the challenge, which is encouraging.
