Bacolod City will hold a pre-demolition conference on January 13th for structures behind Manokan Country in Barangay 12. Affected residents will have until January 28th to voluntarily vacate the area.
The Bacolod City Legal Office (CLO) will conduct a pre-demolition conference on January 13 for the removal of structures behind Manokan Country in Barangay 12. City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu announced yesterday that, on Monday, January 6, the Local Housing Board met with representatives from Barangay 12, and it was agreed to hold the pre-demolition conference on January 13.
Following the conference, Chiu said that affected residents will be given ample time, until January 28, to voluntarily vacate the area. 'It was discussed and ensured during the Local Housing Board meeting that all affected families have been provided with assistance, including a relocation site,' he added. Chiu noted that at least 10 structures remain in the area, including stores and boarding houses. A total of 50 houses in Barangay 12 were affected by the development of Manokan Country, with some families already relocated to the designated site. However, Chiu pointed out that some families did not receive relocation assistance because they were already beneficiaries of the city’s housing relocation site but failed to occupy it. On October 20, 2023, the Bacolod City government signed a contract agreement with SM Prime for the redevelopment of the iconic Manokan Country. The pre-demolition conference will be attended by representatives from the CLO, Bacolod Housing Authority, and Barangay 12 officials
