Bacolod City has earned the Seal of Good Local Governance award, granting the city access to the SGLG Incentive Fund. This year, the fund amounts to P2 million, which will be allocated to projects that align with the city's local investment program and development initiatives.
Christian Nagaynay, Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government -Bacolod, highlighted this achievement after Bacolod, led by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, received the prestigious 2024 SGLG award at The Tent City of the Manila Hotel on Monday, December 9. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Seal of Good Local Governance, which recognizes local government units for exemplary governance. The theme for this year's award is “Isang Dekada ng Pagkilalasa Tapat at Mahusay naPamamahala” . Nagaynay explained that Bacolod City received its second SGLG award under Mayor Benitez’s leadership. Bacolod is the only highly urbanized city in Western Visayas to be honored with the award in 2024. “The SGLG is the highest recognition given by the DILG to outstanding LGUs across the Philippines,” Nagaynay said. 'This recognition comes with an incentive fund, similar to last year, which will be granted to Bacolod.' The SGLG process is highly rigorous, requiring LGUs to meet standards across 10 key governance areas: financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace and order, environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and the arts, and youth development. “These 10 governance indicators were used as parameters for the 2024 SGLG. Bacolod underwent two layers of validation: regional and national,” Nagaynay added. Mayor Benitez expressed his gratitude to the city’s employees, stakeholders, and citizens for their unwavering commitment to good governance. “I am proud to share that Bacolod City has received its second SGLG award under my administration. This achievement reflects our shared vision and hard work in advancing meaningful reforms and creating a brighter future for Bacolodnons,” he said. He emphasized that this success would not have been possible without the dedication and effort of the department heads, program leaders, and the continued support of the Bacolod community. “Together, we continue to strive for excellence and progress for our beloved city. Thank you for being part of this journey,” Mayor Benitez added. In addition to Bacolod City, 11 other cities and six municipalities in Negros Occidental also received the SGLG award. The cities recognized include Bago, Cadiz, Escalante, Himamaylan, La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay, Talisay, and Victorias. The six municipalities honored with the award are E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana, and Manapla.
