An inmate who broke out of the Philippine Military Academy stockade in Baguio City has been rearrested in Makati City after a manhunt conducted by the military and the police, the Bureau of Corrections reported Saturday.
In a statement, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines arrested Federico Abamonga along Dela Rosa Street corner Pasong Tamo in Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati City, and turned him over to the BuCor at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Abamonga, 30, of Block 10, Patola Street, Barangay Tumana in Marikina City was sentenced from 8 years to 14 years imprisonment by the Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 273 for homicide.Under an agreement with BuCor, the PMA will monitor the security and activities of deployed persons deprived of liberty and be accountable for escapes and other incidents prejudicial to the effective and humane safekeeping and rehabilitation of inmates.
Once a PDL escapes while in its custody, the PMA will immediately report to the BuCor the recovery and retrieval of the escapee.
