Acadia Axewomen star Haley McDonald was named the AUS most valuable player on Thursday.Acadia's Haley McDonald and UPEI's Elijah Miller were named the most valuable players in AUS women's and men's basketball on Thursday.

Axewomen teammate Samantha Russell was chosen as the AUS nominee for the U Sports' Tracy MacLeod Award that honours a player who demonstrates determination, perseverance and unwavering spirit to continue playing the game of basketball. Matt Gamblin of UPEI was selected as the coach of the year after leading his team to a 13-7 record and third place in the conference.

The all-rookie team is comprised of Mercy Olugu and Sarah Valley of Dalhousie, Helmig, Darah Fleurgin of Cape Breton and Malva Gyllenhammar Ekelof of Memorial.Miller was UPEI’s top scorer this season and finished third in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.7 points per game. He also had 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in his MVP season.

Tyrell Vernon was selected as the coach of the year in just his second season at the helm of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men program. Marcus Barnes of UNB was chosen as the rookie of the year. The six-foot-three guard led all AUS rookies in scoring with 14.8 points per game.
