One person has died after a magnitude 6.9 quake hit Davao del Sur Sunday afternoon.
This was confirmed Governor Douglas Cagas, adding the fatality was a 6-year-old girl from Barangay Asinan, Matanao. The young child was unable to flee their house before it collapsed.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are in progress after several structures in the Padada public market collapsed due to the quake. However, the Davao del Sur Risk Reduction Management Council has yet to release details on the number of people trapped in the area., its epicenter located nine kilometers west of Matanao, however, there was no tsunami alert as it was inland.
Because of the quake, classes in all levels in Davao City have been suspended on Monday, December 16. This is to allow officials to ensure their buildings are structurally sound.
