Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao appealed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize the development of the Antique Airport, emphasizing the need to extend the runway to accommodate larger aircraft and reduce travel inconveniences for Antiqueños.
ILOILO CITY — Antique Governor Rhodora “Dodod” Cadiao has implored President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize the development of the Antique Airport . Cadiao made her appeal directly to the President during his chairmanship of the Regional Development Council-6 meeting in Iloilo City last week. She highlighted the urgent need to extend the runway to accommodate larger aircraft.
Currently, the Antique Airport, situated in the capital town of San Jose de Buenavista, can only handle turbo-propeller airplanes. Philippine Airlines operates three flights per week to the province. Cadiao emphasized the gravity of the situation, drawing attention to the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) plan to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by relocating domestic turbo-propeller flights to Clark, Pampanga. She expressed concern that this would significantly inconvenience Antiqueños, forcing them to endure longer travel times through Clark Airport. As a former chairperson of the RDC-6, Cadiao urged President Marcos to scrutinize the allocated budget for the airport's expansion, as she had received reports that the funds had been reduced.During their meeting, Gov. Cadiao stressed the critical importance of developing the airport to enhance accessibility, stimulate trade, foster tourism, and improve emergency response capabilities. She reiterated to President Marcos that the development of the Antique Airport is essential for the province's growth and progress
