A bill seeking additional cash incentives for Filipino athletes who brought tremendous pride to the country has been filed in the Senate.

Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, in filing Senate Bill No. 1225, said it is imperative to increase the cash benefits given to medalists who achieve podium finishes in the Southeast Asian Games and Asian-level sporting events in recognition of their hard work and personal sacrifices as part of the Philippine contingent.

“What our national athletes achieved in the SEA Games is truly historic and should be heralded. It was not only how they performed in their respective sports, but the way they carried themselves during the games that captured the hearts of Filipinos and our ASEAN neighbors alike,” the senator stressed.

Under the bill, Angara proposed increases on cash incentives for Asian Beach Games and Asian-level competitions that are held at least every two years with at least 25 countries participating, and qualifying competitions for world-level and Asian-level games.
