MANILA, Philippines — The National Amnesty Commission has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in its mission to promote peace and reconciliation in the country.In a record-setting development, it received and processed 127 amnesty applications from former members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Moro National Liberation Front in a single day, February 25—the highest intake recorded to date.Of the applications, 104 were from MILF members, while 23 came from MNLF members.
The commission said the achievement was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Local Amnesty Board in Basilan, with critical support from LAB Sulu and LAB Pagadian.The NAC thanked the Department of Justice, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines ZamBaSulTa Chapter, and the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission for their assistance, as well as the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity led by Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr.
