CARMEN, DAVAO DEL NORTE—The administration-backed Senate slate, Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, pressed on with its Mindanao campaign on Saturday, undeterred by the region’s reputation as a Duterte stronghold and the largest voting bloc in the island.

House Deputy Majority Leader and former Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo, a native of Davao, refuted the perception that Mindanao is exclusively controlled by the Duterte political dynasty.“We hope that the people will decide. I believe we will not be disappointed in Alyansa because the candidates you see on posters are all government officials or former government officials who have worked and performed even during the time of former President Duterte,” Tulfo said.

Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos underscored the importance of engaging directly with Mindanao voters, viewing the campaign as an opportunity to introduce Alyansa’s platform to a broader audience.
