CEBU CITY — Cebuano pet owners are encouraged to explore aquamation, an eco-friendly and compassionate alternative to traditional fire cremation, to honor their departed pets.
The first aquamation service opened in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City , the first in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, and it uses water instead of fire to gently decompose pets' remains. The process significantly reduces carbon emissions and, at the same time, produces water waste that can be repurposed as fertilizer for plants, including fruit trees.
Tan admitted that introducing aquamation to Cebu initially posed challenges, as many pet owners were unfamiliar with the process. However, she observed a growing acceptance, particularly among environmentally conscious individuals and those who wish to bid farewell to their pets in a dignified and respectful manner.
