Naomi Davidson said the sap is starting to run and the buckets are out in Upper Clements, N.S.From late-season flower blooms to all-time record-breaking temperatures, there have been a few surprises this winter season.
It’s not surprising to hear that sap is flowing in some of our maple trees in Atlantic Canada. The back-and-forth temperature swings this season have been more representative of a transition from winter to spring for some locations.Of course, the flow of sap from maple trees to create maple syrup is highly weather dependent, and given our temperatures are known to fluctuate during the winter, the maple syrup season can begin as early as late February.
