The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) tapped on May 23, Saturday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) to teach soldiers and their dependents the basics of urban farming. These efforts are to avert a potential food shortage amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
General Felimon Santos Jr., AFP Chief of Staff, said experts from the DA conducted a whole day introductory seminar on urban farming at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City as part of the “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat Kontra COVID-19 Program” .
“Through this, our soldiers and their families will be able to ensure the availability and sustainability of food, and provide an alternative livelihood during our nation’s battle against the dreaded virus,” Santos said. Aside from being introduced to different types of urban farming, Blanco said the participants were also shown a practical demonstration and a tour of different urban farming model sites in the OJ7 Urban Farming Garden inside the military camp.
