An Australian man who went overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship has been identified and remembered as a “kind, beautiful, and gentle soul”.

Brisbane man Warwick Tollemache was travelling on the Quantum of the Seas when he went overboard in the Pacific Ocean, about 800km south of Kailua-Kona on the west coast of O’ahu, also known as Big Island, at 11.03pm on Tuesday .Watch the latest News on Channel 7 or stream for free onAfter failed search efforts by crew members on the ship, which remained at the location for more than two hours, the US Coast Guard stepped in, allowing the cruise to continue on its course towards Hawaii.

After searching for more than six hours, the US Coast Guard announced the “difficult decision” to suspend the search for Tollemache.Discussions with his next of kin and the Australian consulate, as well as relevant case information, helped inform the decision, search and rescue mission co-ordinator Kevin Cooper said.

“The Coast Guard has made the difficult decision to suspend the active search for the passenger aboard the Quantum of the Seas,” he said.“Our family is heartbroken at the loss of our beloved Warwick,” Mandy Tollemache wrote.Quantum of the Seas is on a 16-night cruise that departed Brisbane on April 12.
