The heartbroken partner of an Australian man who was found dead inside a jail at a popular tourist destination is disputing local police's theory on how the father-of-one died.
Matthew Winder, 31, was arrested for alleged"drunk and disorderly" behaviour in the popular tourist hotspot of Phuket in the early hours of Monday morning. The father-of-one was then placed inside a cell on the second floor of Patong Provincial Police Station at 5:45am to"calm down".
Police suspect Mr Winder died from suicide but his girlfriend Ayla Varoxis is disputing the claim and had a more disturbing theory."He had all intentions of coming home to his family... he was doing better than his usual and everyone he loves will agree." Provincial police chief Sermpan Sirikhong claimed the 31-year-old was"drunk and acting wildly" when he was detained by officers on busy Bangla Road.
Mr Winder flew to the party island last week to add more tattoos to his body and was due to return back to New South Wales on Tuesday. "I told you I loved you in another lifetime, I found you again in this one and I'll search for you in every lifetime after," she wrote.
