Attorney general Mark Dreyfus has cleared for release the documents in the case of Alan Johns, also known as Witness J, but court yet to publish

The monitor found that after termination of his employment due to loss of his security clearance, Johns complained to the agency that he had been treated unfairly, using “unsecure means” to communicate “classified information”.

In the annual report, Donaldson revealed that “relevant commonwealth officers” from an unnamed agency had consented to publication of redacted sentencing remarks “though their publication could only occur by order of the ACT supreme court”. The sentencing remarks have still not been published. A spokesperson for Dreyfus said “the publication of sentencing remarks is a matter for the ACT supreme court to decide upon”. Guardian Australia contacted the court for comment.
