BACOLOD CITY – Six individuals have died from leptospirosis here, the City Health Office said.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment and Sanitation Division, said the two most recent fatalities were a construction worker and an Information Technology graduate.The 47-year-old construction worker was from Barangay Pahanocoy. Symptoms manifested on July 17 and he was admitted to a hospital five days later on July 22 and passed away.The sixth patient was a 24-year-old man from Barangay Estefania.
Tan said the onset of his illness was July 29. He was admitted to a hospital a week later on August 5 and passed away the same day. The CHO said that 15 leptospirosis cases have been reported here as of August 10, 76.2 percent lower during the same period last year with 63 cases and 10 deaths. Barangays with leptospirosis cases were 35, Pahanocoy, and Punta Taytay with two cases each and one case each in Alijis, Vista Alegre, Mansilingan, Mandalagan, Felisa, 6, 12, Estefania, and 39.
