MANDAUE CITY — The city has declared 397 sacks of rice from the Sugbo Merkado Barato program unsafe for consumption after they were left unsold and improperly stored for over a year.Inspections by the city’s agriculture and health offices in early August found the opened sacks of rice contaminated and infested with pests.
Malig-on confirmed ongoing talks with the provincial treasurer to reconcile records and clarify whether the rice was consigned or considered paid upon delivery. Efforts to locate the MOA have been unsuccessful.An inquiry has also been sent to the City Social Welfare and Services Office to clarify how the SMB program was managed and it remains unclear who was responsible.
