Five persons are missing after the cargo vessel MV Jherlyn Khatness was sunk off Lavezares, Northern Samar on Monday afternoon, the Coast Guard Station Northern Samar said Tuesday.“The vessel was carrying cement departed from Naga City, Cebu and was enroute to San Jose, Northern Samar , and encountered rough sea conditions, resulting in submersion after being struck by large waves,” CGS Northern Samar acting commander Ensign Brhyl Amay said in a notice to mariners.
The Coast Guard said 10 crew members have been rescued while five remain missing.“Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” Amay addedThe sunken vessel is located in the waters off Barangay Balicuatro.“In this connection, all ships/watercraft transiting the above-mentioned areas are advised to take note of the information and take precautionary measures at all times. Nearby rescue activity is also reported in vicinity seawaters of Barangay Lipata, Allen, Northern Samar,” the Coast Guard said.
