Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said the government should deploy more ships in the Philippines’ territorial waters to avoid trespassing of foreign vessels.Zubiri said this move will aid President Duterte’s order to require foreign ships to notify Philippine authorities ahead of their passage in the country’s waters.
“We should likewise continue to beef up our defenses with more ships on the water as well as surface radar that can detect incursions within our territories,” he added. While he did not detail how the order would be enforced, Panelo said military forces might be sent to drive away unauthorized vessels.
For his part, he said the country’s alliances and existing treaties with other nations “will play a major role.”
