Seven Zamboangueño weightlifters who won medals at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Doha, Qatar, were recognized by Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe. The mayor praised the athletes and coaches for their achievements and pledged continued city support, including the release of their incentives.
ZAMBOANGA City Mayor John Dalipe has recognized seven Zamboangueño weightlifters who won medals during the recent 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Doha, Qatar. Dalipe accorded the recognition when the athletes together with their coaches paid him a courtesy visit in the afternoon of Thursday, January 2, 2025, at City Hall.Dr. Cecil Atilano, city sports director, facilitated the courtesy visit of the weightlifters and coaches to the mayor.
Atilano said the medalists included Aldrin Colonia (silver – snatch; gold - jerk and total – gold); Jhodie Peralta (snatch- gold; jerk – silver and total – gold); Rose Jean Ramos (snatch- silver); Alexandra Diaz (bronze medalist); Rosalinda Faustino (snatch – bronze and total – bronze); Angeline Colonia (total - silver and snatch – bronze) and Princess Jay Ann Diaz (total – fourth; snatch – bronze and clean and jerk – fourth). The coaches of the Zamboangueño weightlifters were Allen Jayfrus Diaz and Gregorio Colonia. Dalipe expressed joy and pride to the athletes and their coaches for their achievements and for continuously bringing pride and honor to the city and country. The mayor assured the athletes that the city will continue to support them and will release their incentives the earliest time possible. He said that based on a local ordinance, Zamboangueño medalists in the Asian level competition will receive P125,000 for gold; P100,000 for silver and P50,000 for bronze. The ordinance stated that the coaches’ incentive is equivalent to 50 percent of the athletes’ incentives.
