The chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations on Tuesday directly answered the accusations of Vice President Sara Duterte that only he and House Speaker Martin Romualdez have control over the national budget, saying all members of the House and Senate review the national budget.
“Once again, this is another attempt to mislead the public. They seem to think the people are not smart enough to see through this,” House Appropriations Chairman Elizaldy Co said.“The national budget is also reviewed by 24 senators and then by the Bicameral Conference Committee, which includes 30 members from both the Senate and Congress. So, how can just two people control the national budget when it goes through so many layers of scrutiny?” Co, who represents Ako Bicol Partylist, explained.
“Before making accusations against others, she should answer the people’s questions: Where did the public funds go?” Co urged.
