She added, “If we are to survive another pandemic we need to fully integrate a traveler’s health status into their digital travel documents. A good example is the EU green travel pass that has now been adopted by 62 countries. Let us find a single system for the world.” While it may not be practical for some countries to adopt the Covid health pass systems of other nations, Simpson underscored in a news conference later, “What they could adopt is a platform that interphases between the four main [digital health certificate] systems on your phone, so all customers can have one … seamless journey. So that is what we [WTTC] are campaigning for.”
In a panel discussion on Redefining Travel in a Changing World, Marriott International Group President Craig S. Smith said digital solutions in the hotel industry will continue to endure, post-pandemic. “Most of our companies have tried to grow quickly touchless solutions for our clients. Our clients have learned about it and they’re demanding it. This is not stopping at the front desk …. They’re not there for the bureaucracy of the check in….
