Over the years the popular outing became known as ‘Billy Hockey’ because of the part Billy McIntyre had played. But sadly, with age, Billy’s health deteriorated and he was forced to step aside.Rather than see the popular Wednesday afternoon hockey disband, Ron MacKenzie stepped up and took on the responsibility of being the organizer. Ron quietly became the go-to person.
“I began playing hockey with Ron MacKenzie and the Wednesday afternoon group,” Fox, of Bay Head, said. “I played for 10 to 12 years, Ron was the organizer, he collected the money, paid for the ice time, and bought the refreshments for after the game. Ron did just a great job and everyone was appreciative.”“I recall at Christmas time, Ron would decorate the dressing room, he’d put up Christmas lights and have things looking pretty good.
