As the kids rushed from store to store, there was no shortage of laughter and shouts of excitement as they spotted the next item they wanted to buy.

Each child received a $200 gift card from Halifax Shopping Centre to spend on items of their choosing, as well as a new winter jacket from Sport Chek and a stocking full of goodies. Firres, who was quick to buy a pillow with Marvel Comics character Venom on it at GameStop, was less than excited when his friend Lydia Graylee choose Claire’s as the pair's next shopping destination.
“It was a really bad idea to come to Claire’s,” Graylee said as Det. Const. Aaron Head followed her around, carrying a light purple basket full of items ranging from journals to small fake plants to earrings.“I like a lot of stuff. I want some new sweatsuits and clothes and some new shoes for cheer and stuff,” she said.
“In this job, you know … we’re dealing with people in different circumstances and this is a positive side of policing and the kids get to look at it from that perspective, too, and see us in a different light as well.”
