Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard is being sued for $2.8 million by a woman he sexually assaulted in 2016., after the Ottawa woman testified the Canadian musician brutally and repeatedly raped her in a Toronto hotel room.In a statement of claim filed on Monday, the woman who is in her 20s outlines the same details she gave in her testimony at the criminal trial: that she met Hoggard when he was in Ottawa for a WE Day performance and travelled to meet him at the Thompson Hotel in November 2016.
As a result of the attack, the woman suffered both physically and mentally — including pain, panic attacks, intrusive flashbacks and fear of men and relationships, the statement of claim says. Her life was “fundamentally and forever changed,” it adds, and she will require counselling indefinitely. No statement of defence has yet been filed. Hoggard’s criminal defence lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment and it is unclear who is his civil lawyer.Hoggard remained on bail in British Columbia after his conviction in June. Superior Court Justice Gillian Roberts has said he likely faces at least two years in prison.of sexual interference and sexual assault causing bodily harm in relation to a teenage fan in Mississauga.
