Woman charged over $6,000 at hospital for urine test launches lawsuit

The Mercury News, which looked at her lawsuit, said her total bill was more than $13,000 with insurance covering more than $6,000.Her lawsuit seeking to have John Muir Health lower the price to a “fair value” and she hopes to become part of a class-action suit to pay back previous patients any money they were overcharged.
The lawsuit says Thompson had to sign a contract agreeing to the hospital’s “regular rate and terms” before she got treatment. The hospital told the Mercury News emergency rates are higher because they “must have expert physicians, nurses, and staff, as well as comprehensive services, available 24/7/365. The claims will not withstand scrutiny in a court of law.”
