Aksyon Demokratiko vice presidential bet Willie Ong on Thursday called on the Philippine government to invest in open green spaces for the mental health of Filipinos amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Ong said open spaces such as skateboard parks, bike parks, and running tracks will encourage safe modes of relaxation. “Kailangang-kailangan natin ng open green open spaces para sa mental health ng mga kababayan natin,” he said in a statement. The cardiologist cited a 2018 study in Philadelphia that supposedly showed the improvement of residents in the area when authorities fixed up an open space.Further, he said that this will facilitate better mobility among residents.“Kailangan din itong open green spaces para maging mas maaliwalas ang urban areas, magkaroon ng kaluwagan ang mga tao habang naglalakad, at mahikayat silang mag-engage sa social activities,” he said.
