ILOILO CITY – It is unclear if former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog will return to the country to help clear this city of the “shabulized” tag made by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Residents are wondering if Mabilog, who sought asylum in Canada, will take the challenge posed by Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda.

“I might be able to convince Jed to come home so that we can also ask for his statement,” said Baronda during the August 16 public hearing of the House Committees on Dangerous Drugs, Public Order and Safety, Human Rights, and Public Accounts. “What happened to him? We need to shed light on the war on drugs in Iloilo, which is not true,” added Baronda.

Beginning August 2016 until his presidency ended in 2022, Duterte repeatedly named Mabilog as an alleged protector of the drug syndicate run by Melvin Odicta, who was killed in 2017.He was supposed to come back but did not when Duterte publicly announced that he had ordered the mayor killed. The National Bureau of Investigation inspected the Mabilog ancestral home without a warrant to see if he was hiding there.
