Australian cricket’s new “Wild Thing” Lance Morris has stormed into calculations for a baggy green in Sydney after the decimation of the hosts’ vaunted pace attack in the second Test.
Highly rated Victoria off-spinner Todd Murphy may well be the second-best spinner in the country, but team balance may cost him a New Year’s debut alongside Nathan Lyon, though he is firmly in the plans for the heavyweight series in India.
“We look to complement the attack, so it won’t necessarily be the next best spinner,” McDonald said. “The second spin role is there to make sure you have balance in the attack.” Western Australia’s Aaron Hardie appears to be the next in line for batting all-rounders after being selected in the PM’s XI game, but is averaging only 27 this season.
