Wieambilla shooting victim Alan Dare is being remembered by family and friends as a much-loved 'hero' who always helped others.

The family of an innocent neighbour gunned down in a deadly police ambush in Queensland last week will farewell their"hero" at a funeral in Ipswich on Friday. during a siege on Monday, that also claimed the lives of constables Mathew Arnold and Rachel McCrow.

Dare is now set to receive a posthumous police bravery medal for his selfless actions, as his family prepare to say goodbye to their much-loved"hero". Queensland Police on Thursday announced a posthumous medal for bravery will be awarded to Dare's family in mid-January.
