It wasn’t White’s first attempt to perform in the Philippines. “Back in 2001, I asked if we could come here and they said, ‘no, you can’t do that,’” White said in a calm, almost child-like tone. “And finally this year, I married a Filipino girl named Olivia Jean. I said, ‘now can I go?’ They said, ‘alright, now you can go.’” The crowd whistled and cheered with this revelation.
White continued, saying, “This next song is about the explorers in the world and it’s called ‘Temporary Ground.’”on the piano, making this live version rather different from the one on the record. Drummer Daru Jones and bassist Dominic Davis follow suit. Hearing Jack White play live with his band live was almost like listening to a perfectly recorded album, but on steroids—every note, every chord, and every drumbeat was in place.
