Western Visayas surpasses single-day record of COVID-19 cases with 355
Based on the data released by the Department of Health , the 355 new cases recorded September 6 surpassed the record of 206 recorded last September 4.
Since March, there have been a total of 5,701 COVID-19 cases logged in the region, which is comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces, as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.In terms of area, Bacolod City had the highest number of cases with 237 cases. It was followed by Negros Occidental province with 48 new cases.
The national government has placed Bacolod City under general community quarantine since the beginning of this month when the locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 spiked again. It first saw a spike late in July. There were also 40 new COVID-19 cases in Iloilo City, 15 in Capiz province and 11 in Iloilo province.Meanwhile, Western Visayas region currently has 2,752 active COVID-19 cases, and 87 deaths.
