Rey Remogat erupted with a new career-high performance to steer University of the East past Far Eastern University in a dramatic 87-86 overtime victory in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Remogat, who led all scorers in the first half with 16 points, reset his career-best with 34 points and connected on 6-of-11 shooting from the outside to go along with eight assists, six rebounds and three steals. Interestingly, UE similarly staged a come-from-behind victory over FEU, which blew away its lead in the fourth period.
With 1:15 remaining and while UE made its first five attempts in overtime, FEU struggled and was held to a 2-of-7 shooting from the field. The Red Warriors, though, nearly squandered a comfortable lead as the Tamaraws forced back-to-back turnovers on Remogat. Bautista then came through for the Tamaraws just when they needed it most and sank three consecutive baskets from beyond the arc in just 33 seconds to pull the squad within a single point, 87-86. Abdul Sawat also paced the Warriors after registering 20 markers, six rebounds and five assists. Four other Tamaraws reached double figures, with L-Jay Gonzales and Xyrus Torres tallying 18 and 12 points, respectively. FEU sank to 3-7 in the standings.
