'They still had residential school when it was raining. So that's how I look at the whole thing – it's rain or shine,' says Millbrook wellness co-ordinator Sunshine Bernard.

“To hear some stories who lived it, it was kind of like, ‘OK, this was a good thing. People needed this,’” said Sunshine.Millbrook elder tells her Shubenacadie Residential School story: 'I need to talk about the sadness that was there' “I'm glad that it's Alan Syliboy because he's a community member, he's sharing his experience,” said Sunshine.
Colin, who is also on the Mi'kmaq Grand Council, said it is about being who they are as a people, but not forgetting history. Education about what happened is one of the biggest things about having reconciliation, said Sunshine.
