No, this isn’t about a chainsaw massacre. That’s a movie that will soon be popular around Halloween. This is about preventing what could happen to you or a loved one in a split second that could be fatal or debilitating for a lifetime. | SaltWire
, I have thought about the serious danger of this powerful tool. That one kick-back by the saw at a time that I wasn’t expecting or prepared for it, could mean very serious health consequences. Maybe these safety-first thoughts are coming with age. Surely when I was being trained by Ken Hollingsworth several decades ago about how to use and maintain a chainsaw, I don’t recall being so worried about the dangers. Again, that may have been because I was an invincible teenager at the time.
I can’t overstate the fact chainsaws are dangerous to life and limb. As a parent, I would be hesitant to encourage young adults to use them. In fact, I do not even encourage mature friends to purchase and use them if they do not have previous experience. The complicating factor of hurricane blown down trees is that it dramatically increases the cutting danger. The forces put on the trees and limbs when they are blown down like match-sticks, intertwined and bent over with heavy weight, is very hazardous. Even experienced cutters can be surprised by the direction a tree stem or branch can rocket when released by cutting. If you experienced this type of tree damage, you might want to consider hiring a professional for the dangerous job.
