The $700-million Resilient Homes program, announced in October, is expected to offer about 2,000 buybacks for the purchase of a homeowner's house and land. Federal Minister for Emergency Management Murray Watt said the program aimed to support homeowners in the Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed local government areas to re-establish their lives after the floods.

Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation chief executive David Witherdin said an offer was sent to homeowners on Thursday, February 16. Head of the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation David Witherdin said it’s a "small but significant milestone".Mr Witherdin says 190 people have been contacted to arrange a buyback assessment, and more residents will be contacted in the coming days.All residents registered with the Resilient Homes Program will be contacted about their eligibility for the program, Mr Witherdin says.
