The Voice referendum failed within 90 minutes of the polls closing on Saturday night. The fallout from the result continues on Sunday.
A lot happened last night, and it’s worth revisiting some moments - including a fiery press conference in Brisbane attended by James Massola.There, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price ducked questions about whether a majority of remote Indigenous communities were likely to have backed or opposed the Voice to parliament.Earlier on Saturday evening, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pointed out that majority Indigenous booths like Lockhart River, Palm Island and Mornington Island had voted Yes.
“One thing that I do know is the way in which Indigenous people in remote communities are exploited for the purpose of somebody else’s agenda,” she said.“ need to look at the way in which the AEC, the NTEC conduct themselves when it comes to remote polling and elections at referendums.“I think we should take away those who come in with their how to votes, the unions that come in and overpower vulnerable Aboriginal people in those communities.
