The government should start to set out rules on the new normal in the in the gradual reopening of businesses after the lockdown ends on April 30, a lawmaker said Thursday.

“The government should really set the rules. If the government decides on May 1 or May 15. The government should already know what to do. I know for a fact that they will open up soon,” House Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte said in an interview with ANC Headstart.“Me, I think personally, we have to grab a gradual opening. Why? Because we have to ask all the supply, how much food do we have? Two weeks supply? Three weeks supply? We cannot wait for this to run out,” he added.

With rapid testing being available, the government can require companies to allow their people to work and practice social distancing, the lawmaker suggested.“We have to accept the fact that even if there’s a vaccine, in 18 months, the roll out will still be out in 2022,” he continued. The country started its expanded COVID-19 testing last April 13.

As of Wednesday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 5,453. Of those, 349 died and 353 recovered.
