Victoria’s road toll stands at nine after three fatal crashes on the state’s roads on Friday, bringing the toll to the highest it has been since 2000 for the first six days of a year.
A woman died on Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision about 3.30pm at Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula.Two people were airlifted to hospital in a serious condition, while a road ambulance took two people to Geelong University Public Hospital in a stable condition.
On Friday morning, two vehicles collided on the McIvor Highway in Derrinal, 39 kilometres south-east of Bendigo. A male driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.The last time the state’s road toll for the first six days of the year was above nine was in 2000, when the road toll stood at 10 at this time of year,A 25-year-old Sale man was killed in a separate road accident on Thursday morning, after two vehicles collided on the Princes Highway at Kilmany in Victoria’s east.
The Peugeot driver involved in the Pine Lodge crash, Harinder Singh Randhawa, spoke to family members from his hospital bed on Friday before major surgery, a family member revealed toThe man will undergo surgery after breaking several ribs in the collision, the family member said. He remains under police guard but is yet to speak to investigators due to his injuries.
The force of the collision pushed the car into a nearby paddock. Two of the four passengers were in their 40s and police are working to establish the ages of the other two passengers.
