Victorian police have rescued a nine-year-old boy with autism after he went missing from his Braybrook home and was found swimming in a river about 5km downstream in Avondale Heights, in Melbourne’s northwest.
Members of the public spotted the boy swimming in the Maribyrnong River near Peerless Ct about 7.30pm Monday.Watch the latest news and stream for free on“The child was not only struggling in the water, we soon realised he was also struggling to communicate and was unable to shout for help,” First Constable Jesse Kozak said.
“He was shivering in the water, and when we managed to rescue him, he was exhausted and unable to walk.” A nine-year-old boy was rescued from the Maribyrnong River in Avondale Heights after being reported missing from his home.Police said about two hours earlier he was reported missing from his Braybrook home which was about 5km upstream from where he was found.
“We were shocked when we realised that he was reported missing in Braybrook and had managed to travel down the river to Avondale Heights.” Kozak said.“I’d like to thank the member of the public who noticed the boy in the river and reported this to us. If they hadn’t done this, the consequences would have been tragic.”
