Vietnam Veterans Association’s Colleen Thurgar says everything to do with veterans has been a “big part” of her life.
Ms Thurgar said she thinks it’s “wonderful” that Australia has got so many young people welcoming the young veterans back.
“What we went through, hopefully, none of the newer veterans have to go through,” she told Sky News Australia. At the age of 22, Ms Thurgar found out she was one of the first four army nurses to be deployed to Vietnam. She rose to the rank of Captain and continued as a nurse for many years upon her return to Australia.
