Cheng Lei’s partner Nick Coyle has spoken out about Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews’ refusal to raise the case of the imprisoned journalist in China during his recent visit to the country.

“I think it’s very important for Lei’s case to be raised by Australian officials at as high a level as possible,” Mr Coyle told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“And I’m sure that him adding his voice to some issues such as being able to have contact with the kids, and I think also raising the general issue that while this highly unsatisfactory situation with the detention continues, it does significant damage to the bilateral relationship.”
